Lessons from the Master: Growing in God’s Time

Jesus often used simple stories from everyday life to reveal profound truths about God’s kingdom. In the parable of the Growing Seed, He invites us to consider the quiet, steady work of God in the process of spiritual growth. The farmer scatters seed and then goes about his daily life—sleeping and rising, trusting that something is happening beneath the surface. He cannot see the inner workings of the seed, nor can he force it to grow faster. Yet, in time, the seed sprouts, matures, and eventually produces a harvest.

This parable highlights the mystery and grace involved in spiritual transformation. While the farmer participates by sowing and later by harvesting, the essential growth occurs independently of his direct control. Practically, nurturing faith involves creating space for God’s Word in our daily routines, tending to our relationship with Him through prayer, worship, and community, and being patient with ourselves and others. We can water the seeds God plants by meditating on Scripture, seeking encouragement from fellow believers, and choosing obedience in small things. Most importantly, we are called to rest in the reality that growth is ultimately God’s responsibility. He is faithful to bring the harvest in His time.
