Worship Unplugged: Say I Won’t

“He answered and said, ‘Whether He is a sinner or not I do not know. One thing I know: that though I was blind, now I see.’” — John 9:25

Reflection

There are times when the world, our circumstances, or even our own hearts insist that change is impossible. We hear “you can’t,” “you’ll never,” or “that’s just the way it is.” MercyMe’s “Say I Won’t” is an anthem for anyone who has ever felt boxed in by those words. The song echoes the testimony of the man born blind in John 9, who, after encountering Jesus, could boldly declare, “One thing I know: that though I was blind, now I see.” His life became living proof that God’s power is not limited by human expectations.

The religious leaders of the day tried to explain away the miracle, questioning the man’s story and the authority of Jesus. But the man’s transformation was undeniable. He didn’t have all the theological answers, but he had a testimony that no one could refute. In the same way, “Say I Won’t” invites us to live out a faith that is not just theoretical, but visible—a faith that others can see in the way we rise above our limitations and trust God for the impossible.

God delights in rewriting stories. Throughout Scripture, He chooses the unlikely, the overlooked, and the underestimated to display His glory. When we surrender our lives to Him, He takes what others call weakness and turns it into a testimony of His strength. The world may say, “You won’t,” but God says, “Watch what I can do.” Our lives, like the man in John 9, become a canvas for God’s transforming grace.

Personal Application

Living a story of transformation begins with honesty about where you are. What are the areas in your life where you feel stuck, limited, or defined by your past? Bring these places before God in prayer, asking Him to open your eyes to what He can do. Like the man born blind, you don’t need all the answers—just a willingness to let Jesus work in your life. Trust that He sees you, knows your struggles, and is able to bring about change in ways you can’t imagine.

Take practical steps to walk in faith, even when it feels risky. Maybe it’s forgiving someone who hurt you, pursuing a calling that seems out of reach, or simply choosing hope in a season of disappointment. Surround yourself with people who will encourage you to believe God’s promises and remind you of His faithfulness. Share your journey with others, not as a story of your own strength, but as a testimony to what God can do through a surrendered heart.

Finally, let your life speak for itself. When others question your hope or doubt your transformation, point them to the One who made it possible. Like the man in John 9, your story may be the evidence someone else needs to believe that change is possible. Celebrate each step forward, no matter how small, and give God the glory for every victory. As you live out your faith, you’ll discover that the greatest adventure is found in trusting God to do what others say you can’t.

Thought-Provoking Questions

  1. What limitations or labels have you accepted that God may be inviting you to surrender?
  2. How does the story of the man born blind in John 9 encourage you to believe for transformation in your own life?
  3. What is one step of faith you can take this week to move beyond what others say you can’t do?
  4. Who in your life needs to hear your story of God’s transforming power, and how can you share it with them?

Prayer

Heavenly Father, thank You for being the God who transforms lives and rewrites stories. Forgive me for the times I have believed the voices that say I can’t change or that my circumstances are too great. Open my eyes to see what You can do in and through me. Give me courage to step out in faith, to trust Your promises, and to share my story with others. May my life be a testimony to Your power and grace, and may I always give You the glory for every victory. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
