Worship Unplugged: Big Tent Revival

"Will You not revive us again, that Your people may rejoice in You?"

— Psalm 85:6

Reflection

The word “revival” often conjures images of passionate gatherings, heartfelt worship, and lives changed by the power of God. In Scripture, revival marks moments when God’s people turn back to Him with renewed faith, humility, and longing for His presence. Psalm 85:6 voices a desperate yearning for spiritual renewal: "Will You not revive us again, that Your people may rejoice in You?" This prayer for revival is not just about emotions or events—it's about hearts awakened to God’s love and grace, leading to genuine transformation from the inside out. Throughout history, God has met His people in times of dryness, breathing new life and hope into weary souls.

Zach Williams's song “Big Tent Revival” captures the spirit of these moments—a call to come together, to lay down burdens, and to seek God's presence with others. The imagery of a “big tent” reminds us of the Old Testament tabernacle, where God’s glory dwelled among His people and all were invited to draw near. In the New Testament, Jesus promised that where two or three are gathered in His name, He is with them. There’s something powerful and life-changing about communal worship, prayer, and testimony. When we gather as the body of Christ, we experience unity, encouragement, and the joy of being part of a family on a shared journey of faith.

This invitation to revival is both personal and communal. God calls each of us to step out from isolation and spiritual complacency, and to join in what He is doing among His people. The “big tent” is wide enough for everyone—the broken, the hopeful, the searching, and the redeemed. In these gatherings, we find space to be real, to encounter God’s transforming presence, and to witness His Spirit at work. Revival is not a one-time event but a continual invitation to open our hearts, be renewed by God’s love, and carry His light into the world.

Personal Application

Seeking revival begins in the quiet places of our own lives. It means coming before God with honesty and humility, asking Him to rekindle our passion for Him. This might look like setting aside time for prayer, opening Scripture with fresh eyes, or simply inviting God to search our hearts. Revival flourishes when we are willing to surrender our routines, disappointments, and distractions, trusting that God longs to restore, heal, and fill us with new joy.

But revival is not meant to be experienced alone. Building and participating in a community of faith is essential. Consider joining a small group, attending church regularly, or reaching out for prayer and fellowship. When we share our struggles and victories, encourage one another, and worship together, we create an environment where God’s Spirit can move freely. The “big tent” is a reminder that there is room for everyone—your presence and story matter, and God uses each of us to bless and support others in the journey.

Finally, revival propels us outward. As we encounter God’s love, we are called to share the message of hope with those around us. Look for opportunities to invite friends or neighbors to church, offer a listening ear, or simply share what God is doing in your life. Sometimes, the most powerful testimony is a simple word of encouragement or a story of how you have experienced God’s faithfulness. As we carry the revival fire beyond the tent, God can use us to spark renewal in the hearts of others and in our communities.

Thought-Provoking Questions

  2. How have you experienced the power of gathering with other believers in your faith journey?
  3. What steps can you take this week to build or strengthen your connection with a faith community?
  4. Who in your life might be encouraged by hearing about your experience of God’s presence and hope?

Prayer

Heavenly Father, thank You for Your invitation to revival and for making a place for me in Your family. Awaken my heart to Your presence and reignite my passion for You. Help me to seek You daily, to join with others in worship and fellowship, and to share the hope I have found with those around me. Give me courage to step out in faith, openness to Your Spirit’s work, and a willingness to be used for Your glory. May Your love and revival spread through my life into my community, bringing light, freedom, and joy. In Jesus’ name, amen.
