The Resurrection Changes Everything

“And if Christ is not risen, then our preaching is empty and your faith is also empty.”

– 1 Corinthians 15:14

Reflection:

Paul was honest: if Jesus did not rise from the dead, Christianity falls apart. He did not say, “Even if the resurrection is false, at least Christianity gives nice values.” He said faith would be empty. That means the resurrection is not a bonus belief for Christians. It is the center. Jesus’ resurrection shows that His death truly paid for sin, that He is Lord, and that death does not get the final word.

The New Testament presents the resurrection as a historical claim. Paul listed witnesses who saw the risen Jesus, including individuals, groups, and even more than five hundred people at once. The first Christians preached the resurrection in the same city where Jesus had been crucified. They faced rejection and suffering, yet they continued proclaiming that Jesus was alive. Something powerful had to explain their courage and the birth of the church.

For you, the resurrection means hope is not just a mood. It is anchored in what God did. When friends ask why Jesus matters, you can explain that Christianity stands on the claim that Jesus died for our sins and rose again. If He rose, then His words matter. His forgiveness matters. His promises matter. His call to follow Him matters. The resurrection turns faith from wishful thinking into trust in the living Savior.

Personal Application:

Practice explaining the resurrection in one minute. You could say, “Christians believe Jesus really died, was buried, and rose again. His followers claimed they saw Him alive, and they were so convinced that they spread the message even when it cost them. The resurrection is why Christians believe Jesus is Savior and Lord.” A short explanation can be powerful when it is clear and sincere.

Ask yourself whether you treat the resurrection like a real event or only like an Easter tradition. If Jesus is alive, then He is not just part of church history. He is present with you now. He hears your prayers, strengthens you when you are weak, and calls you to live with courage. The resurrection should shape how you face fear, temptation, loneliness, and pressure.

This week, read 1 Corinthians 15:1-8. Notice how Paul connects the gospel to Jesus’ death, burial, resurrection, and appearances. Then thank God for one specific way the resurrection gives you hope. Maybe it gives courage about the future, strength to resist sin, or confidence that Jesus is who He said He is. Let the truth of the empty tomb become personal.

Thought-Provoking Questions:

  1. Why does Paul say faith would be empty if Christ were not risen?
  2. What evidence for the resurrection do you find most interesting?
  3. How does the resurrection change the way you think about fear or death?
  4. How would you explain the resurrection to a friend in one minute?

Prayer:

Risen Jesus, thank You that my faith is not empty because You are alive. Help me understand the resurrection more clearly and share it more courageously. Let Your victory over sin and death shape my choices, my hope, and my conversations. Teach me to live like I belong to the living Savior. Amen.
