Prophecies That Point to Jesus

“And beginning at Moses and all the Prophets, He expounded to them in all the Scriptures the things concerning Himself.” – Luke 24:27

After Jesus rose from the dead, He helped His followers understand that the Old Testament had been pointing to Him all along. The Bible is not a pile of disconnected stories. It is one big story of creation, sin, promise, rescue, and restoration. Prophecy is one way God showed that He was guiding history toward Jesus. Long before Jesus was born, Scripture spoke about the Messiah’s family line, birthplace, suffering, rejection, death, and victory.

Fulfilled prophecy matters because people cannot control history centuries before they are born. Jesus did not choose where He would be born, which family line He would come from, or how His enemies would treat Him. The point is not that prophecy is a magic trick. The point is that God keeps His promises. When Christians talk about Bible-based evidence, fulfilled prophecy helps us explain that Scripture shows a pattern of God knowing, planning, and accomplishing His rescue through Christ.

For teens, prophecy can strengthen confidence when faith feels pressured. If someone says, “The Bible is just random religious writing,” you can point out that the Bible tells a connected story over many centuries. Different human authors wrote in different times and places, yet the message fits together around Jesus. Fulfilled prophecy does not answer every question someone may ask, but it gives a strong reason to take the Bible seriously and look more closely at Christ.

Personal Application:

Choose one prophecy about Jesus and study it this week. You might compare Micah 5:2 with Matthew 2:1, Isaiah 53 with the crucifixion accounts, or Psalm 22 with what happened at the cross. Read slowly. Ask, “What did God say ahead of time? How did Jesus fulfill it? What does this show me about God’s faithfulness?” Let the evidence lead you into worship, not just information.

When a friend questions your faith, you can use prophecy gently. Try saying, “One reason I trust the Bible is that it points to Jesus before He came. Christians believe the Old Testament promises and the life of Jesus fit together in a way that shows God was working through history.” Then ask if they would be willing to look at one example with you. One clear example is better than overwhelming someone with a list.

Also notice that Jesus Himself used Scripture to explain who He is. If Jesus trusted the Scriptures, His followers should learn to trust them too. You do not need to sound like a professor. You can say, “I’m still learning, but I see that the Bible’s story leads to Jesus.” That kind of humble confidence can make faith feel less like a private guess and more like a truth worth exploring.
