Miracles and the Power of God

“But He said, ‘The things which are impossible with men are possible with God.’”

Reflection:

Many people reject the Bible because it contains miracles. They assume miracles cannot happen, so they decide the Bible cannot be true before they even study the evidence. But that starting point matters. If God exists and created the universe, then miracles are not impossible. The Creator of nature is not trapped by the normal patterns of nature. He can act within His creation whenever He chooses.

Miracles in the Bible are not random magic tricks. They reveal who God is and confirm His message. In the Gospels, Jesus heals the sick, calms storms, casts out demons, feeds crowds, and raises the dead. These miracles show His compassion, authority, and identity. They also point forward to the greatest miracle: His resurrection. The question is not only, “Can miracles happen?” but “Who is Jesus if these miracles are true?”

For teens, miracle questions often come up when friends say, “That is impossible.” You can answer by explaining that Christians do not believe miracles happen because nature is weak. We believe miracles happen because God is powerful. If someone rejects God before considering the miracle, they will naturally reject the miracle too. But if God exists, then miracles become reasonable signs of His power and purpose.

Personal Application:

When someone says, “Miracles cannot happen,” try asking, “Do you believe God exists?” If they say no, then the real question is about God, not miracles. If they say yes, you can ask, “If God created everything, would it be impossible for Him to act in His creation?” Good questions help reveal the deeper assumptions behind the objection.

You can also focus on Jesus. Say, “The biggest miracle Christians point to is the resurrection. If Jesus rose from the dead, then His other miracles are not hard to believe.” This keeps the conversation centered on the foundation of Christianity. You do not need to explain every miracle in one conversation. Point to the risen Christ.

This week, read one miracle of Jesus in the Gospels. Ask three questions: What does this show about Jesus? What does this show about human need? How does this point to the gospel? Miracles are meant to lead us beyond amazement into trust. Let them strengthen your confidence in the power and compassion of Christ.

Prayer:

Lord, nothing is impossible with You. Help me trust Your power without using it carelessly in conversations. Teach me to point people to Jesus, whose miracles reveal His compassion, authority, and victory over death. Strengthen my faith in the risen Christ. Amen.
